"About Hacking Chinese"
I’m almost through a busy period with mid-term exams and a gymnastics competition, and since I won’t stay in Taiwan long after the semester ends, the only opportunity for another meet-up this semester is before final exams and reports start piling up, i.e. now. The previous meet-up was a great success, at least in my opinion. Close to a dozen people showed up and we discussed learning Chinese an entire afternoon. Let’s do that again! This meet-up will also be held in a cafe somewhere close to the NTNU main campus (close to both 古亭 and 臺電大樓 MRT stations) in Taipei.
This article is about a new revolutionary way of learning Chinese (or any other language) without actually spending more time. It has huge potential, but needs more thorough research before it can be released commercially. If you want to get in on the secret earlier, don’t miss this week’s article. Only valid today!
As frequent readers might have noticed, I have changed several things on Hacking Chinese recently. The changes have been gradual, so I thought I’d summarise what’s happened recently. If you think there’s anything else I should fix on the website, let me know! I would also be very grateful if people could check out the new features and functions and see if they are working properly.
I’ve been in Taiwan for almost six months and even though I have met some people I previously only knew over the internet, I still haven’t arranged a proper Hacking Chinese meet-up. Time to change that! The first meet-up ever is planned for next Saturday (March 2nd) and will be held in Taipei.
2012 was a very good year for Hacking Chinese. The website has expanded enormously and so has the number of readers. This article details some of the most important developments, some of the best articles and also some random facts. Lastly, it discusses the future. What will happen in 2013?
This is just a small post to inform you that my restructuring of Hacking Chinese is now complete. This is cooler than it sounds, because it actually means that a lot of new content has been added. This is especially good news for beginners, but should be interesting for others as well. I have done [...]
I’m happy to announce that an interview with me have been published over at FluentFlix. To see what other things I’ve written elsewhere on the internet, please see Hacking Chinese elsewhere. In this interview, I talk mainly about learning Chinese (no surprise there), including some personal comments on my own learning and some embarrassing mistakes [...]
As you might have noticed, Hacking Chinese was down for almost a week and went online again only this morning. The server that hosted the site crashed (hard disk failure) and I had to restore everything from backups, which were fortunately made fairly recently. Some comments might have been lost, but otherwise all content is [...]
Learning efficiently vs. learning quickly
By Olle Linge On January 22, 2012 · 5 Comments · In About Hacking Chinese, Advanced, Attitude and mentality, Beginner, Intermediate, Organising and planning
In this article I argue that there is a significant difference between efficiency and speed when it comes to learning a language. Everybody should be interested in learning Chinese efficiently, but using the word speed comes with a number of problems.
2011 has ended, 2012 has just begun. This is an excellent time to review what’s happened during Hacking Chinese’s first year online. It’s also an opportunity to talk a little bit about the future. In what direction do you want Hacking Chinese to move?
